It's a wonderful life

This has been the most wonderful day. We've had lots of family time, and it has been topped off by the best evening just hanging out in the back yard.

Davis got a new book today about dinosaurs, and he wanted to go out and read it in the hammock. Truly, a boy after my own heart.

Since I was taking a picture of Davis reading, Andrew also wanted his picture made, holding his very special "Pirate Uniqua".

And, we finally caught a glimpse of some houseguests we've had for a while...a family of doves who have nested in a corner of our back patio. We've seen Mama Dove there for a few weeks, and Daddy Dove was giving me some very harsh looks yesterday. Today, we saw the reason why - these precious babies they are protecting!

It's a shame they are up so high and we can't let the boys get a better look, but the picture is priceless.
Life is so good.

Tiramisu Cupcakes

I found a new cupcake recipe online this week, shortly after the release of Martha Stewart's new cupcake book...tiramisu cupcakes! I couldn't resist, and tried making them today. They are absolutely amazing!!! I think I'm going to have to buy the whole book.

It was kind of an ordeal to get through it all...especially since the boys woke up from their naps halfway through the process. But, wow, was it worth it. After all the work, I just had to post a couple of pics.

Troy loved them, too, which was the biggest test. He doesn't eat a lot of sweets, but he likes tiramisu. I never really have liked it, so for us both to love these says a lot. Here's a link to the recipe - you have to try them!

Childrens' Museum

We took a trip to the Woodlands to see the Childrens' Museum today. Mamaw and Granddad were in town, and met us there with Brent and Britney. They were really too old for all the stuff there, but they were so patient to hang out around the mall while Davis and Andrew played in the museum.

They liked this exhibit that showed wind power moving the sailboats.
We thought we may have lost Andrew once he saw the train table. That's all he wanted to play with!

Luckily, we got him to move on to the next exhibit where they could dig for dinosaurs!

This was the critter corner, where they had all kinds of snakes, turtles, lizards...little boys' paradise! Davis had been watching a t.v. show about snakes the night before, so was especially fascinated in this room.

Andrew gave up on the critters after a while and decided to leave his mark on the art car.

Ready for school?

I'm not sure what the boys were playing after they woke up from their naps, but they came downstairs loaded down with the fishing backpacks saying, "We're ready to go to school!" Summer just started, right? I'm thinking they must have seen something on t.v. to spur this on.

They were so excited and adorable I just had to take a picture. They are the best of friends, and seeing them play together is amazing.

Summer has really begun!

Ah, June 1st. A day we have been looking foward to. It's not yet the first "official" day of summer, but for our family, it's the easiest way to define summer at this point.

We celebrated by a great afternoon of playing in the backyard with the blow-up swimming pool and slide.

Teamwork at its finest!
